Retiring Virgin Media Superhub Wi-Fi
Apart from an all too frequent loss of broadband services in our area, having experienced a fair number of issues with wi-fi connectivity to our Virgin Media Superhub, we decided to replace the wireless router part of the Superhub with a second router. It’s already proving to be a great move.
Following months of problems with wireless connections being dropped, usually requiring a reboot of the router to regain connectivity, our patience had run out. A friend pointed us in the direction of a website on building small networks which provides reviews and ratings on networking components.
A quick search on there and a look through the Router Charts had sold us on the ASUS Black Diamond Dual-Band Gigabit Wireless-N Router. We picked ours up from Amazon. A quick setup to reserve an IP on the Superhub for the Asus router by it’s mac address, and few settings changed and the wireless turned off on the superhub and the Asus is now providing our home WiFi.
We’ve only been using it for two days but it’s a much faster and stable connection and it’s worth the money (at the discounted price we purchased it for) for those benefits alone, never mind the other features we haven’t got round to trying yet.
